From Suha Saba: Uyghur Lives Matter — The Honors Program at Oakton (oaktonhonors.com)

Abstract

Islamophobia is a very prominent issue globally. Injustice after injustice, Muslims continue to be oppressed by various governments. One of the many events taking place is the Uyghur Muslim Genocide in Xinjiang, China. China is trying to ethnically cleanse the Islamic faith. It seems that many people are unaware of the current situation at hand. Despite exceeding over 2,000,000 Uyghur Muslims being detained, leaders in power are doing nothing to cease it. It’s crucial to spread awareness of this, and it must stop at once. In numbers there is strength, and in strength there will be justice.

Course: Honors Learning Community, “Writing, Gender and Knowledge: Intersectional and Transnational Perspectives.” This seminar is comprised of two interlinked and team-taught courses: Introduction to Composition and Introduction to Women’s and Gender Studies.
