A great big congratulations to all of our Honors Awardees, completers of the Honors Scholar Degree Designation (Designees), and all Graduates and Transfer Students who have taken Honors classes at Oakton in the last few years!

Honors Scholar Degree Designees 2021-2022:
Among all 2021-2022 graduates, 9 students distinguished themselves by completing 18 credit hours within the Honors Program and earning the Honors Scholar Degree Designation. This is the highest achievement possible within the Honors Program and requires an exceptional level of dedication to academic excellence.
Melanie Buskin completed the Associate in Arts with the Honors Scholar Degree Designation in Spring 2022. They were awarded the Oakton Honors Peace and Social Justice Studies Award.
Paola Castro completed the Associate in Arts with the Honors Scholar Degree Designation, and concentrations in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, and Peace and Social Justice Studies in Spring 2022. She was awarded the Oakton Honors Public Intellectual Award, and the Elmhurst-Oakton Honors Transfer Scholarship, a full-ride scholarship to Elmhurst University, where she will transfer in Fall 2022.
Hanna Ibrahim completed the Associate in Science with the Honors Scholar Degree Designation in Spring 2022.
Parthvi Rana completed the Associate in Science with the Honors Scholar Degree Designation in Spring 2022. She plans to transfer to a four-year university to complete a B.S. in Computer Science.
Suha Saba completed the Associate in Arts with the Honors Scholar Degree Designation in Spring 2022. She plans to transfer to a four-year institution to pursue a B.S. in Healthcare Administration with a minor in Business.
Kathryn Stangel completed the Associate in Arts with the Honors Scholar Degree Designation in Fall 2021. She is currently a junior at Illinois State University, pursuing a B.A. in English with a minor in Italian Studies. She has recently been accepted to the Honors Program at ISU.
Zaid Syed completed the Associate in Science with the Honors Scholar Degree Designation in Spring 2022. He was named Oakton’s Honors Student of the Year and was awarded the Oakton Honors STEM Award. While at Oakton, Zaid served in leadership positions in Phi Theta Kappa and the Student Government Association, as well as taking part in the National Science Foundation funded STEM Scholars Program. Zaid will transfer to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Fall 2022 and intends to major in Biology while completing medical school prerequisites.
Chloe White completed the Associate in Arts with the Honors Scholar Degree Designation in Spring 2022. She was awarded the Oakton Honors Philosophy Award. Chloe plans to transfer to a four-year institution in Fall 2022 and major in Political Science and hopes to pursue a graduate degree in Philosophy.
Lucia Zdenahlik will not graduate until 2022-2023 but has already completed the Honors Scholar Degree Designation. She was awarded the Oakton Honors Environmental Studies Concentration Award.
